From the Frontline – Setting the Captives Free from Human Trafficking: Modern-Day Slavery

In this episode of From the Frontline, we expose one of the greatest humanitarian crimes of our age—human trafficking and modern-day slavery. Although many believe slavery ended in the nineteenth century, millions of men, women, and children remain trapped in forced labour, sexual exploitation, debt bondage, and human trafficking across the world today.

We examine the realities of Modern slavery in Africa and beyond, including the resurgence of slave markets under extremist groups, the exploitation of vulnerable women and children, and the international networks that profit from human misery. The discussion also explores the often-overlooked history of slavery, comparing different slave trades throughout history while highlighting the continuing need to confront injustice wherever it exists today.

Closer to home, we consider evidence of human trafficking in South Africa, including cases of labour and sexual exploitation, and discuss how criminal syndicates prey upon the vulnerable. We also examine the responsibility of governments, churches, and ordinary citizens to expose these crimes and stand with those who cannot defend themselves.

Most importantly, we ask: What is the Christian response? Scripture calls believers to defend the oppressed, rescue those in danger, expose the works of darkness, and proclaim the freedom found in Jesus Christ. The Gospel not only transforms hearts—it compels us to seek justice and mercy for those held captive.
