From the Frontline – Ebola in the Congo: Excuses & Other Obstacles to Missions
In this episode of From the Frontline, we examine the challenges facing missionary work in one of the most remote and neglected mission fields on earth—the Congo River Basin. From fears surrounding disease outbreaks and security concerns to resistance from within Christian circles, we explore the obstacles that often stand in the way of taking the Gospel to unreached people.
Drawing on reports from the field, we discuss the realities of ministry in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where millions of people living along the Congo River remain difficult to reach and often have little access to biblical resources, discipleship, and Christian literature. We also consider the vital role of missionaries, Bible distribution, and leadership training in areas where modern technology alone cannot meet the need.
The conversation broadens to address a timeless question: how should Christians respond to fear, uncertainty, and opposition when carrying out the Great Commission? We reflect on biblical principles of courage, perseverance, and faithfulness, and why obstacles should be seen not as reasons to retreat, but opportunities to trust God and press forward.
The episode also includes reflections from a recent ministry visit to the United States, highlighting opportunities for preaching, discipleship, pro-life outreach, media engagement, and encouraging believers to understand the times and respond biblically.
A challenging and inspiring discussion on missions, faith, perseverance, and the urgent need to bring the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
“So shall My Word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please.” – Isaiah 55:11
